Poem

Found a sweet poem about adoption:

"Not Flesh of my flesh, nor bone of my bone, But still miraculously my own. Never forget for a single minute You didn't grow under my heart but in it."

Our Journey to Isabel

Yesterday I heard the rumour...all of March 2006 might be matched by the CCAA this month! What does that mean? In short, we might be going to China before the year is out to meet our daughter ("born in our hearts") we have named Isabel. At least, that is the name embroidered on her Christmas stocking. And the name we use when saying our dinnertime prayer for her. It could change. But for now, she is our Izzy.

We started this journey in 2005 when we decided to begin the adoption paperwork. At the time, the wait for a healthy Chinese infant was about 9 months. We officially "logged in" to China's system on April 4, 2006 (after a grueling year of paperwork, fingerprints, homestudies, and so on) and expected we would travel in early 2007. I even went part-time at work in preparation for the adoption. Well, our timeline was apparently not God's timeline, and by summer of 2007 it was clear that we wouldn't be traveling to China for many months if not years. So, without getting our hopes too high, we decided to give in vitro fertilization a shot during the long wait. Wouldn't you know it - God indeed had a plan for us which came in the form of Samuel James and Elijah Thomas on May 26, 2008!

We are often asked why we are still pursuing adoption. It is a commitment we made to an unknown, unborn child years ago. We have invested a great deal of time and money. But the real reason is that Isabel has already become a part of our family, even though we have never met. We would no more abandon her than we would one of our twins. And so, we wait.
