Girls Day Out
Yesterday, while Kevin and Jeff were on their journey to the orphanages, Melissa and I took the girls to Shamian Island with Lucia. We were both feeling a little nervous about the guys being gone all day, but we decided we needed to get out. We did a little shopping and I bought Zoe's first pair of squeaky shoes...got them home and found out one of the squeakers was a dud. Guess she'll only squeak on every other step. We looked for Chinese baby dolls but couldn't find any. Later, I found out that the Chinese don't really do baby dolls (but in the mall today I saw plenty of blond Barbie dolls!) For lunch Lucia took us to The Deli Shop, a very nice little restaurant where we had chicken curry with potatoes and cabbage. Even though it was raining a little, it was nice to eat outside beneath the Banyan trees.
The girls started to get a little fussy after a while (I am talking about me and Melissa!) so we headed back to the hotel for naps. Later, our new guide Amy came to our rooms to collect some documents needed for ?? (I've lost track.) Then Melissa and Anna Joy came over and we had a lovely dinner of cornflakes and bananas. While we ate we let the girls play on the bed. Zoe actually seemed interested in her little friend, and scooted over so she could touch her feet. At 10 months, Zoe is the youngest baby in our group but Anna Joy is just 3 months older.
It was nice to have a mommy-daughter day with Zoe. For the first time, she let me put her in the carrier facing me. I think she liked it once she stopped trying to twist around so she could see everything. She even fell asleep for a little bit. We've noticed that she is getting better with eye contact and doing less of her nervous lip-sucking habit. Kevin can get her to smile very easily...wish you could have heard her giggling in her crib last night! She was cracking us up. She eats like a champ, naps well, and sleeps for around 11 hours a night. She rarely cries, and when she does it is usually for an obvious reason. We are finally starting to accept that maybe, just maybe, we have a pretty easy baby. I guess God knows what he's doing...if we had come to China three years ago when WE wanted to, we wouldn't have our Zoe, and the twins might never have been born. Like they say, when we plan, God laughs.

ReplyDeletep.s. We love squeaky shoes too! You can buy them online at squeakmeshoes.com The lady that created this site/shoes was inspired by the squeaky shoes worn by either her adopted children or sister's adopted children from China. :)
