March 1st, 2010
We got our call at 2:49 pm!! A healthy baby girl from the Guangdong Province. Her name is Gang Hao Mei and she is 6 months old.
That's what my post from March 1st would have said if I had done it, but my blog has been sadly neglected. Long story short, we finally got our visas and travel approval, and after that it was a whirlwind of planning and packing (on top of finishing up the school year, remodeling the master bath, and of course taking care of two sweet 2-year-old boys). And here we are in Beijing! The flight here was brutal, naturally, but I'm sure nothing compared to what the flight home will be with a 10-month old on our laps! We left Thursday morning the 17th (snuck out before the boys got up) and made it to the Cincinnati airport in time to be delayed 45 minutes due to mechanical problems with the plane. Luckily they had another plane available and we made it to Detroit in time to eat and get on the next plane for the 13-hour haul to Tokyo. After that, a "short" jump from Tokyo to Beijing and we got to the hotel around 10 pm. I slept like a rock, Kevin didn't. Today was CRAZY - our guide Sherry is very high-energy and good at sticking to a tight schedule (which, if you know me, I am NOT). She dragged our jet-lagged butts from Tian' anmen Square to the Forbidden City to the pearl mall to the Summer Palace to the silk factory to the Olympic Village, with a buffet lunch and a Beijing duck dinner thrown in there somewhere. I'm not even sure if that was the actual order of things, but I do know that it was crowded and hot, we were tired as hell, and I loved every minute of it!
